Opel Mokka X / Vauxhall Mokka X / Buick Encore - Android Screen Upgrade
The 2016-2019 Mokka X and Encore left the factory with a small display and a head unit that cannot be upgraded. Model 9980/2980 puts a 9-inch or 10.1-inch Android screen in a moulded gloss-black frame that follows the original dashboard lines. The climate panel and the trim stay; wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and an online theme store arrive.
Model 9980/2980 is a screen plus frame kit for the 2016-2019 Opel Mokka X, the Vauxhall Mokka X and the Buick Encore. One part number covers both screen sizes because both sit in the same moulded frame. The frame is shaped to the Mokka X radio aperture and the screen arrives already mounted in it, so the finished unit sits flush against the vents instead of hanging in front of them.
| Model | Vehicle | Model years |
|---|---|---|
| 9980 / 2980 | Opel Mokka X, Vauxhall Mokka X | 2016-2019 |
| 9980 / 2980 | Buick Encore | 2016-2019 |
| 9978 / 2978 | Opel Mokka, first generation | 2012-2016 |
The fitment guide below compares three Mokka console layouts. The layout with a factory display and the layout with the blank radio panel are both marked compatible. The third, with round climate dials and no display recess, is marked incompatible: that console belongs to the 2012-2016 Mokka, which takes our separate 9978/2978 kit.
Before the swap, the centre stack is built around a small display with a fixed menu. What you can see and what you can change were decided when the car was designed. After the swap, the same aperture holds a 9-inch or 10.1-inch Android touchscreen with an app dock, a full navigation view and split-screen layouts. The climate panel, the vents and the trim are untouched, which is why the result reads as a factory option rather than an add-on.
The left edge of the screen carries capacitive keys for power, home, back, volume up, volume down and navigation, so the panel stays flush with no moving parts to rattle or wear.
There are three realistic routes for a 2016-2019 Mokka X: keep the factory unit, buy a head unit from a marketplace listing, or buy the screen and frame together from the factory.
| What you are comparing | Keep the factory unit | A marketplace listing | WITSON 9980/2980 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dashboard fit | Original panel, no work needed | Generic bracket, dash kit often missing | Frame moulded to the Mokka X aperture |
| Screen | Factory size and type | Varies by listing | 9-inch or 10.1-inch, IPS or 2K QLED |
| Phone integration | Whatever the factory build supports | Often wired only | Wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto |
| Navigation | Factory map data, if fitted | App dependent | Any Android map app, GPS and Beidou |
| Audio tuning | Factory tone controls | Varies | Built-in DSP on most builds |
| Interface | Fixed layout | Fixed layout | Built-in UI layouts plus an online theme store |
| Updates | Dealer visits | Rarely offered | Update check from the settings menu |
| Add-ons | Dealer accessories | Limited | DVR, DAB+, OBD2 and TPMS options |
The factory and marketplace columns describe each route in general terms; the WITSON column lists our published specification.
Every build in this range is listed as wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, so the phone stays in your pocket.
Take the 9-inch panel for the tighter console or the 10.1-inch panel for the wider one; both use the same frame.
The range runs Android 15 or Android 16 and offers Wi-Fi 6.0 or 4G LTE plus Wi-Fi, depending on the build.
All but the entry build carry a DSP, so the factory speakers can be tuned without an external processor.
The radio module in the reference unit is a TDA7708 with RDS; Bluetooth is 5.0 BLE Host with an external microphone.
Three positioning sources, so the map is ready seconds after the unit wakes.
The part number is a range rather than one board. We build the same Mokka X frame on six platform families, from a 2GB plus 32GB entry board up to 6GB plus 128GB with an octa-core processor and an optical or coaxial amplifier output.
The software ships with several complete interface layouts rather than one skin with a colour switcher. A cockpit layout offers a speed read-out, a vehicle graphic and a vertical dock. A conventional layout offers a horizontal dock and widget cards. Tapping the theme icon opens the online store, where designs are published by name - Dream, Batman, Maldives, Secret, Glasstexture and Chess are loaded on the reference unit - and sorted by recommended or newest.
The settings tree also exposes network, navigation, reversing camera, sleep and general options on one page, so the daily setup work is done without an engineering menu.
The Mokka X was sold with several radio and amplifier configurations, so the parts behind the dashboard are confirmed per vehicle.
Every order is checked against the vehicle before it is packed, and the team that confirms the fitment also answers the installation questions afterwards. Send us the model and the vehicle details and we will reply with a wiring reference or a bracket diagram.

Because the frame decides whether the job looks finished. A universal bracket leaves gaps around the vents and often needs trimming; this frame is moulded to the Mokka X aperture.
