CarPlay interface box - Volvo Sensus upgrade

Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto Interface Box for Volvo V40, V60, V90, S60, S80, S90, XC60 and XC90 (CP265)

The CP265 keeps the factory screen in your Volvo and gives it wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. Nothing in the dashboard is replaced, so the factory Bluetooth audio path, the steering wheel buttons, the centre knob and the reversing image all keep working as they do today.

Fitment and model years

The CP265 covers the Volvo V40, V60, V90, S60, S80, S90, XC60 and XC90 from model years 2015 to 2022. It is an interface box, not a replacement head unit, so the factory display, trim and centre console stay in place.

Volvo changed the head unit more than once across those years, so the kit ships in three builds - A, B and C. They are three versions of the same product for three head unit generations.

A Module, harness, microphone, pads and the display leads for this generation
B Same kit with a different display connector set
C Same kit with the connector set of the newest screens here

Before you order: send us your model year and VIN. The factory connector changed across this range, so the wrong build will not fit your car.

Before and after

Before the upgrade your Volvo screen runs the factory menu, the radio and, at most, a wired phone connection. After the upgrade the same screen runs CarPlay or Android Auto with your own apps, and everything that was there before still works.

Audio goes through the factory Bluetooth audio channel, so the original sound quality is kept, and the module carries its own DSP chip with adjustable sound effects.

How the CP265 compares

There are three ways to get phone apps into a Volvo of this generation: keep the factory system, buy an unbranded box from a marketplace listing, or buy the kit from the people who build it.

What you are comparing Keep the factory system A marketplace listing CP265 CarPlay interface box
Factory screen and trim Unchanged, factory apps only Sometimes needs a new screen Your screen, trim and console stay in place
Phone mirroring Often wired only Wired or wireless varies Wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto
Audio path Factory amplifier and speakers only Often a separate auxiliary input Factory Bluetooth audio channel kept, plus an adjustable DSP
Voice control Factory voice system only Varies by product Siri for calls, messages, directions and music
Navigation Factory map, dealer updates Depends on app support Your phone's map plus mainstream navigation apps
Original car controls Full factory control Button and knob mapping varies Steering wheel buttons and the centre knob keep working
Reversing camera Factory camera view May need extra hardware Original reversing image kept, about one second to switch
Fitment check Not applicable You match the part number yourself We confirm the right A, B or C build from your year and VIN

The factory and marketplace columns describe each route in general terms; the CP265 column lists our published specification.

Key features

Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto

Your phone's apps are on the factory screen as soon as you get in, with no cable and no windscreen mount.

Original sound kept

Audio runs through the factory Bluetooth audio channel, and the built-in DSP chip lets you adjust sound effects.

Split screen navigation

Show the map and Now Playing side by side, with arrival time, distance and the current track in view.

Siri on the factory screen

Ask for directions, send a message, make a call, start music or check the weather by voice.

Automatic reconnection

After the first Bluetooth pairing the phone reconnects by itself the next time you start the car.

Factory controls retained

Steering wheel buttons and the centre console knob keep their original operation instead of being remapped.

05

Interface modes and apps

CarPlay brings its own layout: a main grid of app icons, a full music player, a split screen that keeps the map and Now Playing together, and turn by turn navigation with arrival time, distance and traffic.

Because the apps come from your phone rather than from the box, they are the ones you already use. Services shown in our interface material include Apple Maps, Waze, Google Maps, YouTube, Spotify and NetEase Music, alongside the standard phone, messages and podcast apps.

06

Builds and vehicle-dependent functions

Every CP265 kit ships with the interface module, a vehicle specific harness, an external microphone, adhesive pads and the display leads for that build. The builds differ in the display cabling because Volvo used more than one head unit in this range.

Two functions depend on your car rather than on the box. The first is the reversing camera: the CP265 keeps the original reversing image and supports an extended 360 panoramic display where the car already has one. The second is sound tuning: the DSP settings are adjustable, but what you hear depends on your factory amplifier and speakers. Send us your model year, VIN and a photo of your centre console and we will confirm what your car supports.

Frequently asked questions

Does the upgrade replace my Volvo screen?

No. The CP265 is an interface box installed behind the dashboard, so your factory display, trim and console stay as they are. It adds CarPlay and Android Auto to the screen you already have.

Will it work with both iPhone and Android phones?

Yes. The kit supports wireless CarPlay for iPhone and wireless Android Auto for Android phones.

Will the sound quality change?

Audio goes through the factory Bluetooth audio channel, so the original sound quality is kept. The built-in DSP chip lets you adjust sound effects.

Do my steering wheel buttons and the centre knob still work?

Yes. Steering wheel buttons handle voice control, volume, answering and ending calls, and the knobs and buttons in the car keep their factory operation.

Will I keep my factory reversing camera?

Yes. The original reversing image is kept, with about one second of switching, and an extended 360 panoramic display is supported where your car already has one.

Do I have to pair my phone every time I get in?

No. After the first Bluetooth pairing the phone reconnects by itself the next time you start the car.

How do I know whether my car needs build A, B or C?

You do not have to work it out alone. Send us your model year and VIN and we confirm which build fits your head unit before shipping.

How is this different from a cheaper box on a marketplace listing?

Mostly in what is confirmed before you pay, and in who supports you afterwards. A marketplace listing usually leaves you to match the part number yourself, and the audio often runs through a separate auxiliary input. The CP265 keeps the factory screen, audio path, buttons and reversing image, and we match it to your year and VIN, with wiring references from our engineers.
